Nassau County Mite Program
After initial registration according to ages, players will be placed in one of the following programs: “USA Hockey’s Red, White & Blue Program” (ages 5-8) designed to teach basic hockey skills without the competitive pressure of actual games.
Fundamentals, learning and practicing skills in small groups are emphasized. Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I pay by credit card?
- NCHL only takes checks at this time. Please follow the instructions in the application form for how to complete the checks for payment.
- Is there a phone number I can call for questions?
- Unfortunately, we do not have a dedicated person answering phones for Hockey questions. Best way to have your questions answered is to send email directly to pzsamboky@nassaucountny.gov.
- I have two players in the program in two different age groups; can my younger child play in the division with my older child?
- Mites cannot play in the older NCHL divisions.
- Is there a player assessment? If so, when?
- Mites do not have a player assessment. All players beginner to more advanced are welcome to join. Our coaches adapt the program and small area games to help each skill level progress.
- Are there certified coaches or mainly parent coaches? Do the same coaches run the practice sessions as well as games?
- All our coaches are USA Hockey certified, and background checked. A long list of requirements is included with the player application with links to what all our coaches certification requirements.
- Parent coaches are welcome to join players on the ice once all requirements are completed and verified.
- What equipment do players need?
- Please note that Nassau County Hockey does not provide equipment for players. For mites looking to try the goalie position we do have goalie gear to lend the players - we encourage all players to try playing goal.
