Mike Wheeler

Mike Wheeler’s hockey journey has come full circle, from growing up in the Nassau Lions program to helping develop the next generation of Lions players.

Wheeler spent his entire youth hockey career with the Lions, beginning as a Mini Mite around 1990 and progressing through every level of the organization through Midgets. His years with the Lions provided the foundation for a lifelong connection to hockey and eventually brought him back to the organization as a coach.

After college, Wheeler returned to the Lions and began his coaching career as a 10U Assistant Coach from 2012–2014. He moved to the 16U level in 2014, serving as an Assistant Coach for three seasons before becoming Associate Head Coach from 2017–2019.

After stepping away from the Lions in 2019 following the birth of his second child, Wheeler joined the Cold Spring Harbor Varsity hockey program, where he has coached since 2019. In 2020, he helped guide Cold Spring Harbor to the New York State Tournament, where the team finished as state runner-up.

Wheeler returned to the Nassau Lions for the 2025–2026 season as a coach with the 8U Blue team. In 2026, he moved to the Lions 8U Red team, continuing his commitment to teaching and developing young hockey players.

With experience ranging from 8U developmental hockey to the varsity level, Wheeler brings years of coaching knowledge and a deep connection to the Nassau Lions. His path from Lions youth player to Lions coach represents a lifelong commitment to hockey and an opportunity to give back to the organization where his own hockey career began.
