Nassau County Lions Welcome Keith Kinkaid as Goalie Coach
The Nassau County Lions travel hockey program has announced the addition of former National Hockey League goaltender Keith Kinkaid as the program’s new goalie coach.
A native of Farmingville, New York, Kinkaid spent time between the pipes with the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Colorado Avalanche throughout his professional career, compiling a 70-58-21 record in 169 NHL regular season games. Kinkaid held had a goals against average of 2.91 over the course of his NHL career with a .905 save percentage and eight career shutouts.
“I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life,” said Kinkaid. “To me, the ability to take the tools and lessons learned throughout my career and share these skills with the future of the sport, is a full-circle moment for me. I am honored to be part of a program so rich in history like the Nassau County Lions and their talented crop of goaltenders.”
Kinkaid will be working on developing the skills of 20 goalies from the Lions travel program, ranging in age from the 8U level through the 18U level.
An ECAC All-Rookie Team member in 2010 and an AHCA First Team All-American in 2011, Kinkaid set school records for career goals-against average (2.18) and save percentage (.917), and left after his sophomore season ranked second in wins with 37. In the 2010-2011 season, he won 25 games, as Union captured the Cleary Cup as the ECAC regular-season champion, and Kinkaid took home the Ken Dryden Award as the ECAC's Goaltender of the Year.
The fifth Union College player to reach the NHL, the undrafted Kinkaid spent a majority of his first four pro seasons with Albany of the American Hockey League, but spent the entire 2015-2016 season with the New Jersey Devils, playing in 23 games alongside Cory Schneider. He played with Schneider again in 2016-2017, and grew into a bigger role when Schneider was injured during the middle of the 2017-2018 season.
